Yelena Voronina: Peering is an interesting multifaceted story

On December 2, the Congress Center of the Moscow Technical University of Communications and Informatics (MTUCI) hosted the third youth forum titled The Ethical, Culturological and Civilizational Aspects of Working on the Internet. It was attended by talented students and postgraduates from technical universities, who listened to ICT professionals speaking about the Internet’s development and ways both to protect security and promote trust online.

MSK-IX Director Yelena Voronina gave a master class on the work of Internet exchange points based on the example of MSK-IX. She focused on the specifics of the MSK-IX network and its new projects, such as IRR, NTP service, a DNS caching server, and mirror root DNS servers.

"Peering is an interesting multifaceted story. We've been doing it for 20 years, and we still come across things that are completely new to us and to our company. Peering is the cornerstone of the modern Internet, and Internet exchange points are a crucial part of the global Internet infrastructure," Voronina said.

She encouraged the forum participants to read a recent book by Andrei Robachevsky, The Internet from the Inside Out: The Ecosystem of the Global Network, which explains the Internet's internal structure and how it works in simple language.

Yelena Voronina also presented her company's new quarterly magazine, Internet Iznutri (Inside the Internet), and monthly blocks of news by MSK-IX and its partners. In conclusion, she invited everyone to attend the 11th Peering Forum MSK-IX 2015, which will be held in Moscow on December 10.
