Alexander Ilyin: We urge local actors to develop the peering market

A seminar that involved MSK-IX specialists and regional telecom companies took place on June 8 in Kazan. The seminar, the fourth in a series of regional events devoted to the 20th anniversary of MSK-IX, was attended by the company's clients and partners as well as the main players on the local ICT market.

MSK-IX sales director Yevgeny Morozov opened the event by explaining the history and statistics of internet exchange points in Russia and the world and discussing cooperation with European Internet exchange points. He said the Moscow IX has the largest number unique clients which gives the company a serious advantage. Morozov also talked about the history of communications in Kazan and Tatarstan, and MSK-IX's plans in this region.

In his presentation, MSK-IX technical director Alexander Ilyin focused on the technical side of the Internet exchange point's operation. He noted that a DNS node fori .RU, .РФ, .SU and other domain zones, is located in Kazan, in addition to a point of presence.

"We don't sit idle, we are constantly updating our infrastructure. We are now moving to a new platform, enlarging nodes and broadening channels. The process is accompanied by rigorous scrutiny and testing, so the move will not affect our customers. We are also calling on everyone to take a more active part in the development of peering networks in Russia, and we are open to all proposals to establish points of presence", Ilyin said.

RIPE NCC representatives also joined the seminar to present their educational program, which provides students with experience working with IPv6, DNSSEC, DANE and other sophisticated technology.
