On July 16-19, 2019, the Asia Pacific Regional Internet Governance Forum 2019 (APrIGF 2019) will be held on Russky Island in Vladivostok.

APrIGF is one of the key regional initiatives on internet governance, which takes place under the auspices of the UN and is part of a global series of similar events held around the world. The main topic of the 2019 forum will be to ensure safe and accessible internet in the Asia-Pacific Region. Among the main topics of the forum are cybersecurity and legal regulation, internet accessibility and universality, the introduction of modern technologies, internet governance models, and trends and consequences of the digital economy growth.

The forum program includes plenary and section sessions, round tables, discussion panels and workshops. Among the speakers are well-known experts in internet governance, including Chengetai Masango, Manager at the United Nations Secretariat for the Internet Governance Forum, Rajnesh Singh, Chair of APrIGF MSG, Christine Or, head of APrIGF Secretariat, Andrei Vorobyov, Director of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ as well as many other specialists. In total, more than 100 people from almost 40 countries are expected to speak at the forum.

MSK-IX Director General Yelena Voronina will speak at the opening ceremony of the forum. Part of the business program’s speeches will focus on how regulatory policies and governance models help address cyber hygiene issues and ensure a safer internet. Today, one of the most important topics is how to maintain the legal compatibility of laws and extraterritorial data protection on the internet; and participants will share the experience of their countries in this field. The participants will also discuss how developing technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), cryptocurrencies and blockchain, influence the development of modern society.

APrIGF annually brings together over 300 experts from 20 countries. This year the forum will be held for the first time in Russia, and it will celebrate two anniversaries at once: the 10th anniversary of APrIGF and the 25th anniversary of the Russian ccTLD .RU.
