Peering Forum MSK-IX 2020 to take place online
MSK-IX marks its 25th anniversary this year. Much has changed during our history, except for our goal to make Runet reliable and fast. Over the past 15 years, we have celebrated the company’s anniversary by holding the Peering Forum, an annual conference for the network community. This year’s plans have been altered by the coronavirus, but we have found a way to still meet with our friends, clients and partners.

MSK-IX is 25 years old
MSK-IX is celebrating its 25th anniversary. In 1995, representatives of seven providers signed an agreement to create a platform for exchanging IP traffic to unite the Russian internet segment, and in November 1995, the first hub of the Moscow Internet eXchange opened at the M9 telephone station.

The second day of TLDCON 2020 opened with the session “Internet analytics using DNS,” co-hosted by Yelena Voronina, MSK-IX Director General, and Alexei Rogdev, Director General of the Technical Center of Internet. Session participants included Alain Durand (ICANN), Alexei Lukatsky (Cisco), Pavel Khramtsov (MSK-IX), Quoc-Anh Pham (GoDaddyRegistry) and Alexander Venedyukhin (Technical Center of Internet).

MSK-IX Helps Internet Companies Cope With Rapid Burden
From March 17 to April 22, MSK-IX held a promotion MSK-IX vs. COVID-19 in support of internet companies and telecom operators who were faced with a sharp increase in user load. Each contacting MSK-IX participant got the opportunity to use an additional 10G, 40G or 100G port on any peer-to-peer VLANe in a free test mode for a period of 3 months from the moment of connection.

Internet traffic peak hit on March 30
MSK-IX recorded the record maximum of 4Tbit/sec of traffic at Internet eXchange at 19:35, Moscow time. The networks still have reserves for the increasing burden.
